Pedro Pasion

Pedro Calano Pasion, 88, of Hilo, died May 21, 2017 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Oct. 17, 1928, in Banna, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he worked for the Ka’u Agribusiness Co. as a seed cutter.

Friends may call on at 6 p.m. on May 31, 2017 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 7 p.m. service. Friends may also may call on at 8:30 a.m. on June 1 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10:30 a.m. Mass. Family requests casual attire be worn; flowers are welcome. Burial to be held at 12:30 p.m. at Homelani Memorial Park (Ilima Section).

He is survived by wife, Catalina Labicani Pasion of Hilo; daughters, Marilyn P. Aurelio, Arsenia P. Gallegos, Emma (Nestor, Sr.) Cacho and Estelle (Fred, Jr.) Leslie of Hilo, Julie (Francisco, III) Javar of Keaau; son, Patrick (Susan) Pasion of Mountain View; brothers, Alfredo Pasion and Ciriaco (Fely) Pasion of Banna, Ilocos Norte, Philippines; 26 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert Hirano

Robert Torao Hirano, 85, of Hilo died May 7, 2017, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, he was a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, an Army Korean War veteran and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Kamana Senior Badminton, Hilo Bay Badminton Club, Wreckers Golf Club, and Disabled American Veterans.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. June 1, 2017, at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 5 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Shigeko Hirano of Hilo; son, Aaron (Sandra) Hirano of Hilo; daughter, Sandra (Gordon) Okamura of Hilo; brothers, Toshio (Elaine) Hirano of Captain Cook, Herbert Hirano of Kailua-Kona; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Gina Nielsen

Gina Maria Nielsen, 48, of Pahoa, died March 30, 2017, in Hilo. She was born Feb. 21, 1969, in Long Beach, California.

No services.

She is survived by mother Christina Marie Nielsen and brother Joel Jeffrey Nielsen.
